The power of ‘principled’ leadership underscores the memoir, Working a Better Way, by H. Britt Landrum, Jr. It is a history of the 50-year-old human resources company the author founded in Pensacola, Florida, when he was 32-years old. His story illustrates the countless tangible ways in which triumphs are realized when one’s core values transcend into the workplace.

Mr. Landrum built pillars stemming from his foundational beliefs. With the backing of a devoted workforce, he watched doors open time and again throughout his five decades at the helm. The values he held dear served as his guideposts and characterized the enterprising ways he chose to build the business in benefit to the company’s employees and clients—and to his family, industry, and community as well.
Working a Better Way is a feel-good story of a thriving family-owned business molded from Mr. Landrum’s vision, his entrepreneurial spirit, his integrity, and his trusted relationships. This book recognizes the contributions of countless people whom Mr. Landrum credits for his company’s enduring success.
Readers will learn about the fundamentals of human value creation, relationship-building, and beneficial business and HR management practices that have application for companies across all industries. Mr. Landrum’s story is lightly sprinkled with a dose of practicality, self-effacing humor, with lessons learned, and with examples of human connection that underscore business vitality.
The title of the book is a copyrighted slogan used by LandrumHR in its advertising and brochures for many years, which aptly describes the company’s fifty-year journey.
Over the course of 17 months, Christine Broderick Emmanuel worked closely with Mr. Landrum as editor of Working a Better Way. Mr. Landrum released his memoir in August 2020.

This book is about a book club called “Wine and Words.” Eight women in Pensacola, Florida, meet once a month to discuss a book, enjoy a meal, and drink lots of wine. The more wine, the more words—this is a group that likes to have fun!
Laid out one month at a time, Wine and Words: A Book about a Book Club © 2013 documents the meetings of Wine and Words during the year 2012 with colorful anecdotes and photographs interspersed throughout the pages. It includes the four-course dinner menus served by the hosts in rotation; remarks from each meeting attributed to the host and her member guests; member profiles; and a recap of Wine and Words’ group outings. The collection also features favorite recipes; a list of all books read by Wine and Words since its formation in 2006; and commentary reflecting the eight members’ favorite books, least favorite books, favorite characters, and favorite outings.
The bonds are deep and the friendships and love among Wine and Words members shine through the pages like a full moon rising over the Gulf of Mexico.
Wine and Words: A Book about a Book Club was produced and self-published for Wine and Words by members Kathy Neville and Christine “Christy” Broderick Emmanuel. It is not available for sale.

The nonprofit “IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area” published two volumes of The Impact of IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area © 2014 and © 2019 to commemorate the organization’s 10- and 15-year anniversaries. Inspired by the proven model developed by a group of similarly-minded women in Cincinnati, Ohio, the founding board members gave life to effective local philanthropy in 2003.
Accompanied by photographs, The Impact of IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area gives meaning to the mission of the supporting members: to know and serve the community; to collectively fund significant grants to charitable initiatives; and to set an example of effective philanthropy. The coveted two-volume set spotlights the nonprofits awarded grants between the 1st and 10th years (Volume I) and between the 11th to the 15th years (Volume II).
The IMPACT 100 story underscores the impact of annually pooling a $1,000 donation from each member of the women’s all-volunteer organization. Collectively, the members review applications from qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations and award $100,000+ grants to nonprofits each year in benefit to families, education, health, environment, and arts and culture in the two-county Pensacola Bay area. The year 2013 marked the 10-year anniversary of IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area. Leveraging their collective resources, the members funded 47 grants to 39 nonprofits in the cumulative amount of $5.2 million to revitalize our communities. Steady growth increased the financial impact to $10.5 million at the 15-year anniversary mark with 98 grants awarded to over 70 nonprofit organizations since inception.
An anonymous donor funded publication of the two-set collection as a way to recognize the stewardship of the nonprofits and the impact the awards have made in benefit to the communities served. As a proud IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area member since 2007, Chrstine Broderick Emmanuel contributed to the first volume as a co-editor and to the second volume as a co-author and photographer. The books were produced primarily for the members and nonprofits; they are not available for sale.
